  • Spinal cord procedures
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Treatment with fertility-reducing medications
  • Using a gestational surrogate
  • Gender transition surgery
  • Vasectomy surgery
  • Advancing age

The Sperm Freezing Process

RMA of New York – Long Island offers sperm freezing and storage for partners of patients receiving IVF and other fertility treatments at RMA of New York. The first step is to have a consultation with one of our fertility specialists as well as a semen analysis. This test evaluates the quantity and quality of sperm to assess male fertility and diagnose potential issues.

For semen analysis, the patient provides a semen sample, either through self-procurement or testicular sperm aspiration or extraction. The semen sample is examined, condensed into a highly concentrated solution, and flash-frozen through a cryopreservation technique known as vitrification. The sample is then stored safely in our Melville, NY facility, ready to be thawed when needed.
